I nearly forgot to mention that over the summer the kids do water play 4 days per week! The kids love this, and it must be such a huge amount of work for the teachers to get the kids changed and everything, so I am so impressed that they do it so often. We love the Young School!

Employee Experience:

As an educator, I understand the importance of making a child's first experience with school a good one. The Young School has been a wonderful start to my daughter's education. The teachers nurture and love the children. They teach children how to appropriately express their emotions, be kind, and care for one another. The school's project based, experiential approach to learning teaches children to be creative thinkers and leaders. In addition to providing the children with many opportunities to explore and think independently within the classroom, the school also provides optional classes to help children explore other interests. For example, my daughter's love of gymnastics and dance started with the classes that she took at the Young School. Within the classroom, the children are grouped with children no more than six months apart from them in age so that the teachers can teach them at their developmental level. But, the school also provides opportunities for mixed age activities, helping the older children to become leaders for the younger children. For all of these reasons, I feel confident that when my child leaves the Young School to start kindergarten that she will be willing to take positive risks and make the most out of her future education.

My son is 22 months old and has been at the Young School since he was 7 months. His teachers are fantastic (many have 7+ years of experience), the administration is supportive, and the facilities are well-designed for the kids to explore. My son has learned so much from his teachers and his friends, who he has been with the whole time. Periodically there are teacher-in-service days, which kind of sucks because I have to take off work, and you don't expect that with a daycare. HOWEVER, I actually think this is a great idea. I love that the teachers get training every few months, which brings new ideas into the classroom and these certifications are a great benefit for the teachers, some of whom are working towards degrees. You can tell when you visit the Young School that the teachers are happy and love their jobs. They make the day fun for the kids, even as they are teaching them discipline. This daycare is the most expensive place we visited, but not by that much, and it is head and shoulders above the other places in quality. I am so grateful to be able to send my son to such a fantastic school.

The Young School at Waugh Chapel is highly recommended. The teachers and front office staff are top notch early childhood educators, very experienced and sincere with great love and care to the kids. Their facility is clean and well maintained. The curriculum is well established (check their website for details). Communication between the school and parents is effective and efficient. Yes the tuition is on the higher side but definitely worth it.

Some background information. My son was at another daycare before finally settled at the Young School at Waugh Chapel (10 months till graduation). My wife was a professor in special education at a public university and I am a nanotechnology engineer/researcher.

This was 2009 maybe the worse place to work. I had children throw Wooden Blocks at my head they Blame me and My Coteacher. As it was are fault. These two boys ran the school they seen no wrong. I don't know what it is like now.

The playground area is very small.

The Young School fosters independence, creativity, individuality, socialization, problem-solving, group dynamics, and communication. My daughter has absolutely thrived while attending The Young School. I never walk in and hear yelling or screaming, even when there is a lot of activity going on. I love how the teachers model communication and social problem-solving. They speak calmly and kindly to the children, while giving them the tools they need to communicate and work through problems. They also still manage to incorporate lots of learning into the day. I love this school and so does my daughter!

I hope it change.
